quick thoughts

Hey y'all...here are just a few little snippets of brain activity that have been running through my head lately. Whether or not you agree remains to be seen, but that's just life, isn't it?

  • This is for musicians out there, and others who want to be enlightened...why the hatred between singers and instrumentalists? I really started noticing it in college, in my futile attempts to get a music degree of sorts...there were distinct groups. The singers hated the band members, the band members hated the singers, the orchestra hated everyone, and the jazz department got stoned. As I have advanced in years, I notice it still, although it's more subtle. I've been told I've got a "performer's ego", and that I'm quite a musician for a singer. I used to get offended, but I don't anymore. Why? Because I keep voodoo dolls in the trunk of my car and I just take one out and put a pin through its head. So, if you have a sudden headache, now you know why. Whahahahaha (just kidding, I don't have voodoo dolls in my car...that would require effort, which I don't care to expend on anything that isn't related to chocolate.) Seriously, thought, that's the hardest thing about being a musician...working with other musicians and their prejudices. If you want to see what I mean in movie form, rent/buy "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", about the Funk Brothers (studio musicians for Motown in their Detroit days) and their lack of recognition by the public for creating ear-catching musical hooks and, in general, wonderful musical support. You can easily take one side or another when watching the movie, and actually I had a lengthy debate with someone about that film, with ME taking the side of the instrumentalists! So there ya go...
  • I'm running out of time...that's another thought...where does the time go? I don't have any theories on that one, but I think it has something to do with Bill Gates or Donald Trump. Hate 'em both...plus they've got bad hair.

Well, that's enough punishment for now, faithful readers...until I have another brain fart, I remain your loving and benevolent...
