Yahoo! Answers and Sudiegirl's Responses - Christmas Edition

1. What legend is the custom of giving gifts on Christmas Eve based?

Yahoo's answer: Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

The "legend" is based on the Three Kings, or Three Wise Men, bringing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to Jesus as gifts when he was born. They navigated by following the Star of Bethlehem, arriving at the stable when Jesus was 12 days old, hence the "12 days of Xmas," which begin on Dec. 26. January 6 is the Epiphany, the day the Three Wise Men arrived.

Sudiegirl's response: So parents can sleep in on Christmas Day instead of being awakened by several little bodies jumping on the bed going, "Wake UP! WAKE UP! IT'S TIME TO OPEN PRESENTS!!!"

2. Why are all of Santa's reindeer bucks? Don't you find this incredibly insulting and sexist?
Yahoo's answer: Are you serious? Get friggin life.

Sudiegirl's response: Get real - do you think that women would choose to go outside on one of the coldest nights of the year? Plus, they probably keep warm with each other's reindeer farts and Santa's eggnog belches.

3. What will be on your holiday menu this year?

Yahoo's answer: I have a 20 lb ham I'm gonna glaze with honey brown sugar pineapple juice I simmer that together to make my glaze with just a little orange juice it's so damn good and I'm gonna put pineapples on top. Mashed potatoes, gravy, birthday cake for my husband, cheese and relish tray, cookies, Apple pie, Cheesecake, stuffing, deviled eggs, mac n cheese, yams, rolls, salad.there's only 5 of us so I think this meal is huge.

Sudiegirl's response: What's your address? It sounds a lot better than the tuna mac and pop-tarts I'll be eating.

4. I need a $50 gift idea that is gender neutral. Any good suggestions?

Yahoo's answer: Do a "Best of the Year" basket with the top movies and cd's from the year.

Sudiegirl's response: $50 ought to do it. I'll also take a check.

5. Can anybody tell me where the spirit of christmas has gone?

Yahoo's answer: Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

40 years ago I felt the same as you just wrote. Not much has changed except its gotten worse. Last year a lot of the stores wouldn't even say the word Christmas. Because the word is Gods name Christ and mas means the church service that years ago most Christians celebrated. Nativity sets are off limits. They are trying to dispose of all reference to Jesus the Christ of God. So the spirit of Christmas isn't being made manifest in many ways. Songs celebrating anything except a deer with a red nose etc. might offend some people. So we do not hear the old Christmas carols. Just a holy joly Xmas. Reminds me of when Russia closed their churches during the Stalin years. Sad.

Sudiegirl's response: Hoboken - the spirit of Christmas has gone to Hoboken. He lives a few blocks down from an IHOP and the A&P is right across the street.
