Sudiegirl, your favorite fool, blogging on her holiday...April 1st!

LIVE...FROM SUDIEGIRL'S HOME OFFICE...IT'S APRIL FOOLS DAY!!!!

And I haven't thought of any pranks to play. Oh well...life's like that sometimes.

But I'm still here...hanging out...filling a tiny spot in cyberspace with my thoughts. A really tiny spot. Microscopic, really...I know, I know...shut up, Sudiegirl. You have bigger fish to fry!

First of all, mortality continues to make itself known in my life. I found out from my mom yesterday that the father of a close friend passed away.

He had been home with
hospice care since November, and he hung in there for quite a while. His son and I knew each other since pre-school, when we were "boyfriend and girlfriend". What that translates to in pre-school is lots of arguing and hitting of each other with blunt instruments. But we became more civilized through the years. We were both in Iowa All-State Choir as seniors, and many other musical activities during our school years. His dad and mom, like mine, were willing chaperones and music boosters. So finding out of his passing hit me kind of hard...Bonnie Raitt said it best:

I see my folks are getting on, and I watch their bodies change;

I know they see the same in me and it makes us both feel strange.

Al, you'll be missed by many...but just hang out with my dad in heaven and you'll be just fine.

Entertainment stuff keeps on rearing its multiple-headed self as well. For example, while I am entertaining others tonight in Laurel, MD, the digitally remastered "Liza with a Z" will be making its television re-debut (if there is such a word) on Showtime tonight. And me without TiVo. (yes, i am kind of backward in that regard, but at least I have indoor plumbing!!!) This show was a groundbreaking one for both Liza and Bob Fosse (the director). For one thing, it was filmed as opposed to videotaped (at Fosse's insistence). For another, both he and Liza won Emmys for it. For a third, Liza's career (between her Oscar and Emmy) never was quite the same after that...it was like she was an archer and she wasn't hitting the bullseye but she was close. I'm not a Liza fan, but if you like Judy Garland like I do, it just is an osmodic showbiz thing. At any rate...I'll definitely need to do the On Demand thing if Showtime thinks to put it on there for us TiVo deprived folks.

In addition to the whole "Liza thing" (which, even though I appreciate her accomplishments, still makes me feel - when I watch her - like I'm watching a car wreck in slow motion), I am in a quandary.

No, it's not because Ben and Jerry's stopped making Chubby Hubby - because they haven't - right?

It's because two of my favorite cable TV shows - "Huff" and "Big Love" are in competition with one another. They're both on Sundays at 10 PM on TWO SEPARATE CHANNELS!!! As mentioned, I don't have TiVo, so I'll have to figure out how to connect the VCR or just be content to watch one and catch up on the other via On Demand.

However, On Demand screwed up the sequencing on "Huff" so I had to wait several weeks to watch the last three episodes. And they were all good...REALLY good. I was getting exasperated with both Huff and his wife because they were really blind to each other's point of view. However, Beth was acting so...STUPID...mooning over this Clay guy and then being surprised that he had a crush on her all along? DUH! I thought she was supposed to be smarter than that.

Meanwhile, on
"Big Love", last week's episode really showed that Nicki (Chloe Sevigny) is quite the messed-up puppy, and no cute little prairie dress can hide it. And for those who watched last week's episode, did it creep you out to find Nicki with her dear daddy in the bedroom, even though they were fully clothed? EEEWWWWWWW. I've looked at some of the online bulletin boards regarding the show, and lots of folks think that Bill Paxton's character is quite selfish. I can't say I disagree...but why would a man who was cast out of a polygamous compound by his own father want to choose that same lifestyle for himself? Or for that matter, why would anyone? To me, that's compromising too much of your own time, your psyche, and peace of mind. Just have affairs like the Kennedy boys did and you're better off. (BTW, the last statement was a JOKE!!!!!!)

Well, I really must fly now so I may wreak havoc wherever I may land. And don't forget to set your clocks forward or you'll be late for everything...
