Two examples that show stupidity is to the bone...

Sudiegirl sez: Ya know, I should work on not being so provincial and believing that only the United States of America has stupid people. Yea, verily, I should open myself up to more options. Therefore, I have placed two (yes, TWO) articles side by side in this entry. This should clearly show that no matter where you go or what you do, you will find at least one individual whose actions will cause you to smack your forehead repeatedly with the flat of your hand, going “WHY?” Exhibit #1 is below…

Problems with his pasport...
(Alternate title: “Hukd onn Phahnix werkd four mee.”)

Wed Mar 1, 8:26 AM ET
You might have the best forgery skills in the world, but it is not much use if you cannot spell. (Note to my first husband…do not do this job on the side. It will not work for you. You cannot even spell "thermometer" without help.)

A Cyprus court jailed Pakistani national Fazal Ur Rehman for eight months for forgery after police spotted spelling mistakes on stamps on an Afghan passport he was carrying -- otherwise it was a near-perfect copy, the Cyprus Mail said Wednesday. (OK…my question is, did this Pakistani national actually forge the document himself or did he pay to have it done by someone else? Either way, there’s a little thing called quality control. Next time, he needs to use spell check and a dictionary.)

"Ministry" was spelled "Menistry" and the first "n" was missing from government, the newspaper said. (Not good…)

"The passport looked perfect and professionally made ... almost deemed original by forensics," a police officer told a magistrate in the Cypriot capital Nicosia. (Moral: It pays to proofread.)

The next case is born and raised in the USA…the darker side of the sunny South, as it were…

S.C. Mayor Gets $375 Ticket for Speeding (click here for link)

Fri Mar 3, 3:55 AM ET

The mayor of this rural town was candid after being ticketed for driving 103 mph in a 55 mph zone: "Thank goodness I'm not trying to get re-elected," said Mayor Bert Reeves. (My response would have been…”I was just trying to out run those Duke boys, and then Uncle Jesse was making obscene phone calls on my cell phone.. Wait…are we in Hazzard County?”)

The mayor, who has worked to erase the towns' reputation as a speed trap, was given a $375 ticket Wednesday after a Colleton County sheriff's deputy stopped his 2005 Ford F-250 on state Highway 303. (I have to say, that is a bit fast…)

Reeves told the deputy he thought he was driving about 80 mph, according to an incident report. Deputy Robert Cook wrote that Reeves has had numerous traffic violations and requested the ticket not be reduced. (Hmmm…is it just me, or does it not seem like a logical step for this mayor to say, “Well, I THOUGHT I was doing 80. Can’t you just reduce the fine, pretty please?”)

AAA Carolinas recognized Cottageville in December as one of the state's top five communities with populations of less than 10,000 dedicated to traffic safety. The town is about 45 miles northwest of Charleston.

Since Reeves has been in office, Cottageville has reduced its reliance on revenue from speeding tickets. (Is that the same as “Physician, heal thyself”?)

The mayor declined to discuss the ticket, but said he is not seeking another term. (Well, NO! ‘Cause he can’t afford it!)

"I will have done my public service," he said. (Well, what’s he gonna do now? I’d love to know what his future career plans are.)

Sudiegirl’s final opinion?

There are some things that are unique to a culture, but stupidity is not one of them. (I’m pretty sure Aristotle or Socrates said that. Or maybe Dick Van Patton. Who knows?)
