OK, one more and I'm going to bed...BTW, my first experiment with a meme...dedicated to Little Green Friend and my oldest niece, Courtney K.

High school meme (AKA the freakshow that is Sudiegirl and how she came to be)

What high school did you go to?
Washington Community High School, Washington IA

What year did you graduate?1987

What were your favorite band(s) or artist(s)?
Eclectic tastes...NO COUNTRY, but some classic rock stuff, RnB, Euro-Pop, was discovering jazz and classical

What was your favorite outfit?
Honestly? I had a pair of baggy jeans (they were designer, but I can't remember who) with big cargo pockets, and some sweatshirt, plus tennies.

What was up with your hair?PERMS, PERMS, PERMS...plus trying to grow it out to my shoulders. Didn't do the mullet till college, and that was a BIG mistake..

Who were your best friend(s)?Ann, Janna, Lisa W., plus upperclassmen that went on to college (Kandi, Wendy, Sarai, Katey, Catherine, etc)

What did you do after school?
Usually some sort of practice for some school event, part-time job, or home

Where did you work?
I worked at Baskin-Robbins the latter part of my sophomore year and all through my junior year until a couple weeks before my senior year. Then I concentrated on studying and dating.

Did you take the bus?
I had so much crap before school I rode in with my mom while she went to work. I usually got a ride home or walked to my dad's shoe repair shop after school, or else just hung around until the night-time crap started.

Who did you have a crush on?
Half the male state of Iowa..

Did you have a girlfriend/boyfriend?
Boyfriend(s): Ken (sophomore year); Doug M., Jay W. and Gregg H. (Junior year); Shawn E., Chris M. and Cory H. (Senior year)

Did you fight with your parents?
Does Martha Stewart redecorate?

Did you ever get detention?
A few times...mostly for being late to class, not subversive behavior. However, I did get accused of stuffing a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich inside a tuba. The vice principal told me to stop laughing after he told me.

Favorite Subject?
English, my music classes, biology, Government (had the football coach...we could postpone any quiz if we got him started on the previous Friday night's game), French class

Did you get into any major trouble?
Define "major". Got grounded...didn't get arrested.

Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?
Sting...that's the only one I can think of.

Did you smoke cigarettes?
Wanted to. Didn't until much later

Did you carry all of your books around in your backpack all day?
Left most of my books in the band room or choir room and stopped between classes...didn't carry around my backpack much. I did make trips to the locker every once in a while...even remembered my combination from time to time!

Best event ever?Graduation. Best view of high school was the rear view mirror. (Kept the original response from Little Green Friend, but wanted to add all three years I was in Iowa All-State Choir. That was a rush...not many folks in my high school did it, but I did. :-)

Did you have a clique?
Music/drama heads...aka "band/choir fags"...in marching band we used to chant "We are band fags, we smoke tea bags."

Where was your Senior Prom?
Our gym, but I didn't go. My senior year boyfriend dumped me the week before prom and I spent senior prom night at a friend's house watching old Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals and wanting to slit my wrists. Junior year, I went to prom with the guy who gave me my first kiss in my freshman year, and it was a DISASTER!

Did you have a "Max" (hangout) like Zach, Kelly and Slater?
That's a toughie...on Friday/Saturday nights it was popular to "cruise the fours" (as in four-lane streets) around the town, and Pizza-Hut was a popular place, as was Hardee's. I personally think that places like "Max" are a myth, a-la "Pop Tate's" from the Archie comics.

Admit it, were you popular?
It depends on how you define it. Not in my class, but I got to know other kids from other schools and that really helped me expand my horizons.

Who did you want to be just like?
Not sure...I guess (for lack of a better role model), my freshman year choir director (who I was friends with in college and for a long time afterwards).

What did you want to be when you grew up?
At first, a professional musician, then I wanted a career in arts administration but the program was discontinued, then a teacher. I'm a long ways away from those things.

Where did you think you’d be at the age you are now?
Graduated college with a good job and married.

What was the color of your yearbook?
Royal blue and Silver

What were the colors of your school?
Team colors: Orange and black; class colors: Royal blue and Silver (big choice that year)

What was your school mascot?
The Demon...they still haven't gotten it changed, and the Mennonites/Baptists/other evangelicals haven't moved away so I don't know what'll happen.

Do you miss your senior year?
Some parts of it...the friends I had, the musical experiences I had. I don't miss the heartbreak of love (teenage love, specifically), my in the closet choral director, or gym class. I also don't miss curfew.
