Wackjobs...er, celebrities...speak out for Tom Cruise

(Sudiegirl's usual disclaimer...I apologize in advance for all the Scientologists I may offend, but I do want to make a point. Any doctor worth their weight in salt will tell you this: medication is only one piece to the whole puzzle of staying well and healthy. Exercise is important, as is eating right and keeing your stress levels reduced as much as possible. However, there are such things as chemical imbalances...Mr. Cruise doesn't realize that when he says they don't exist, he's discounting ailments such as diabetes, hypo and hyperthyroidism, and menopause, among others - after all, hormones are chemicals in our body, are they not? I think that I should go off my meds for a few weeks, then go along with Tom and Katie on their honeymoon. If that's not going to make a believer out of him, I don't know what will. The usual mayhem follows...)

Stars Defend Tom Cruise (because no-one else will? Oops...slipped.)

TOM CRUISE has made headlines in recent weeks for speaking out on everything from Scientology to psychiatric drugs. (Not to mention jumping on the furniture...I know my butt would have been kicked for that one when I lived at home!)

Tom's supporters and friends, like "JAG" alum CATHERINE BELL and 'Sky High' star KELLY PRESTON, come out in defense of the superstar.
"I think he's so cool for standing up," Bell told ET about his war of the words over post partum medication. (Oh, wow...somebody call a taxi and take her to the freakin' MALL! God, how dumb can you sound? Apparently, that dumb!)

Preston, the wife of JOHN TRAVOLTA (and practicing Scientologist; better keep practicing...) had some choice words about Cruise as well, whom she co-starred with in 'Jerry Maguire' and his recent run-ins with BROOKE SHIELDS and "Today" show host MATT LAUER. Kelly sat down with ET's MARK STEINES to speak out about supporting Tom and his strong statements about psychiatric drugs. (How nice for her...)

"It's no coincidence that in the last two weeks, there have been two huge FDA warnings," says Kelly. "We wouldn't have these warnings without Tom and others speaking out." (Uh, actually, yes we would.)

The actress says that she and friend KIRSTIE ALLEY thanked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for issuing warnings that some psychiatric drugs may create such side effects as hallucinations, violence and suicide. But Kelly says they want more; they want all doctors to report instances of these affects. (Okay, so when I get the pap smear done again, I should have my gynecologist report hallucinations even though they may not be qualified to do so? I agree with warnings being issued, but you know, that doesn't take away from the fact that Mr. Cruise specifically stated that "There is NO SUCH THING AS A CHEMICAL IMBALANCE." And by the way, Tom, Christopher Columbus called to tell you you're full of shit regarding that whole flat world thing.)

"It's a big issue," Kelly emphasizes. "You've got only one percent of doctors who are reporting these things ... We're drugging our kids for normal childhood behaviors." (Oh yeah, like setting the cat on fire? Chasing the babysitter with a carving knife? Watching "Days of Thunder"? Oops...slipped again!)

Tom Cruise (who recently got engaged to KATIE HOLMES) encountered flak for comments he made about Brooke's use of prescription medication to battle post-partum depression. Tom also got into a heated debate with Matt over the issue and questioned the TV host's understanding of the history of psychiatry. Tom, following the tenets of Scientology, says he believes that there are alternatives to psychiatric drugs used to handle depression (Not alternatives to, in my opinion, but in addition to psychiatric drugs), and says there is no such thing as chemical imbalances that need to be corrected with drugs (Please read first paragraph...)"a disservice to mothers everywhere." (Please also note that Mr. Cruise, to the best of my knowledge, does not have a uterus and therefore doesn't know the highways and byways of pregnancy and childbirth, and ALSO, he and Nicole adopted their two children so he's never seen a spouse go through it. Can you say "idiot"? I can, and I don't even need an instruction book.)

In a recent interview, Kelly defended Tom's comments about Brooke, saying, "If you're going to be advocating drugs, which she does in her book, you need to be responsible for also telling the people of the potential risks." (She is right in that case...psychotropic drug therapy is sometimes hit or miss, but if you work closely with a doctor, you are OK. However, working with your doctor does require you to be proactive, not just sitting in the chair like a roast beef sandwich. You have to talk to the doctor and not be intimidated. In addition, many people that take psychotropic drugs also are fortunate in the sense that they only have to be on them for the short term. I'm special because I am on long term meds and always will be, but I still have to work at it.)

She also said that Tom's debate with Matt was "very helpful because it's just raised awareness. People are talking about it now, and that's what they should be ... Whatever your political, social or religious background, this is an issue that affects all of us. It is not just a Scientology issue." (She is right there too...however, ignorance in basic scientific facts is also a Scientology issue. If someone slips into a depression and kills themselves because Tom Cruise says there's no such thing as a chemical imbalance and they're taking fish oil caplets and doing situps, then that's on HIS head. But of course, you know what he'll do...he'll run like the yellow dog of a cowardly cat he is.)

In 'Sky High,' hitting theaters July 29, a playful Kelly stars as superhero/mom Josie Jetstream, the wife of Captain Stronghold (KURT RUSSELL), whose son, Will (MICHAEL ANGARANO), is joining the elite freshman class of Sky High. Although Sky High is a school for the progeny of superheroes where everyone has super skills, Will has no powers of his own and is immediately relegated to the position of "sidekick." As he learns to deal with an overbearing gym coach, the school bully, a rebel with a grudge and typical girl problems, Will must cultivate his newfound superpowers to prove himself and save the day against an evil villain!

(OK, am I the only one who thinks the movie blurb here is totally inappropriate? Just checking...)

Watch ET for more with Kelly and the stars of 'Sky High'! (Only when Tommy Boy goes to do volunteer work at the California State Hospital for the Criminally Insane...then he'll be a believer.)

Sudiegirl's final word?

"Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy? Boom boom, ain't it great to be nuts like us?"

Have a good 'un...
