From the "Not ALL grandmas bake cookies" files and Yahoo! News...

(Sudiegirl's note...please understand that I am not using Phyllis Diller's caricature because I think she's a prostitute of any sort! It's because I didn't know what search string to use in Google to pull up a picture of a senior-citizen prostitute that lets it all hang out. Plus, I just like Phyllis Diller...so sue me...the usual snotty comments are interspersed.)

Granny grows tired of prostitution at age 63

Mon Jul 11, 9:15 AM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - A Berlin grandmother who has worked the city's diplomatic quarter as a prostitute for the last 49 years plans to retire when she turns 64 next year, according to Germany's Bild newspaper.
(OK, first Tom Cruise tells Bild that he believes in aliens...now a Red Hat Society-qualifying hooker announces her retirement. Who RUNS this paper, anyway?)

Even though prostitutes were forced to leave the area after the Berlin Wall fell because dead-end streets in the downtrodden district were re-connected to east Berlin and property values surged, Renate Dolle was allowed to stay, Bild said.
(Gee...she's in the diplomatic section of town...allowed to stay when the rest of the hookers are evacuated...she must be REALLY good at her job.)

"I've got a lot of regular clients," the blonde woman told the newspaper, pictured wearing a short red mini skirt and high-heeled white boots as she stood near the Japanese embassy. She said she charges 30 euros ($36) and on good nights she has four to five clients.
(So that means, at the most, she makes $180 US dollars a night, and if she works 5 days a week with two off for mental health, she pulls in $900 a week. Is she a free agent, or does she have a pimp named Helmut? Does she have to pay taxes?I need to rethink my line of work.)

"I'm going to stop at 64 and retire," said Dolle, whose husband drops her off for work each night after the television evening news and who has a nine-year-old granddaughter.
(Her HUSBAND???? Damn - Europe is open-minded. My boyfriend would rather I sell Amway before doing that, but ya gotta admit, he must be aware of the bucks she makes.)

She is one of 10,000 prostitutes in Berlin and 400,000 in Germany, where prostitution is legal. Dolle said she tried to work in a popular red light district nearby recently but was chased away by younger competitors.
(I think she's better off in the embassy district, anyway...it may be safer, may not. Who knows?)

"What do you want here, you old whore, get lost," Dolle said they shouted at her. "What did I ever do to them?"
(Well, for starters, she probably looks better at 64 than some of them will ever look. That alone can qualify you for having rocks tossed in your general direction.)

Sudiegirl's final opinion?

This amazes me...if prostitution were made legal in America, would there really be the problems with STDs, AIDS and other maladies that plague us? Just think...if it were legal all across the US, they would have access to decent health care and medicine, maybe even health insurance? Who knows? Anyone I have offended needs to understand that this is my opinion, and opinions are like noses...everyone has one.

Enjoy...and maybe I will think over the career change thing? Hmmm...
