So whazzup, you ask?

Not much, really...it's been pretty quiet in the neighborhood.

However, there's always something noteworthy that I have to put down here for posterity. I have a few "somethings" to share.

  • I had to educate my friend Erik W. on who Richard Avedon was and his importance on the American cultural scene (RIP, by the way, Mr. Avedon). Avedon's name is synonomous with "photograpic perfection" in my book, and right up there with celebrity photogs like Herb Ritts, Annie Leibowitz, et al. Avedon could make the ugly beautiful and the beautiful exposed and vulnerable, and sometimes even, yes, ugly. Erik went on this diatribe about Avedon glorifying "human perfection", etc., and right there you could tell that he hadn't seen any of Avedon's photos. I had to set him straight regarding Avedon's importance in the media world, and I gave him both barrels. I was so proud of me, and out of the two of us, I wasn't even the honors student. I don't know whether he figured out what I was saying or not, because Erik has a way of missing the point. Sometimes that's what makes our friendship so amusing and fulfilling for me...like I'm not the only one, ya know? Anyway, whether or not the boy is educated on the ways of Avedon is moot, really, but I pity Erik when/if I ever meet his wife. I don't think she's a force to be reckoned with either...does the phrase "tag team" mean anything to you? Har har har...
  • Also, we lost Rodney Dangerfield this past week. It was sad...I always thought he was one of the funniest comedians out there, and he was so gracious to new comedians coming up the ranks. You have to respect a performer that is willing to say, "You think I'm funny? Check out this guy!" Performers of all stripes sometimes have a hard time sharing the stage, but not Rodney. He was a true gentleman, funny as hell, and "Rover Dangerfield" was one of my favorite animated films of all time. RIP, Rodney...
  • One of the funniest things in my life happened to me today. A friend's son e-mailed me today (don't ask me how he could tell my e-mail address from the rest of them in his mother's address book) from almost 1000 miles away to ask me if I knew where his mother had hidden the power cord to his GameCube. I e-mailed him and called him to tell him I didn't know where it was, and I didn't think I should be telling him because his mom would get really mad at me. I offered to call his mom on her cell phone and ask her permission to tell him where I THOUGHT it was, but he didn't know the cell phone number off the top of his head. What cojones this little boy has! He's going to make a great lawyer or congressman one of these days.

Well, on this eve of Columbus Day, that's all I've got, but be good to each other, and hug and kiss to your hearts' content. Later, folks...
