Is this a little extreme?

And now, from the "If you're too drunk to fish, you might be a redneck" files...and Yahoo! News (Sudiegirl's usual smart-ass comments noted in bold italics)...

ATLANTA (Reuters) - A prominent U.S.-based animal rights group is urging former President Jimmy Carter to give up fishing on the grounds that the activity is inconsistent the Nobel peace laureate's humanitarian efforts.

Reuters Photo (You know, it's hard to remember that he's in his 80's now. I still remember how pissed my dad was that he got elected. Oh gee, Dad, like Reagan was so much better? Anyway...)

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals made its appeal in a letter faxed to Carter's non-profit Carter Centre on Monday. The group said the letter was prompted by Carter's recent appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

Carter, who served as president from 1977 to 1981 and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, told Leno of the pain he suffered when he accidentally hooked himself through the face on a fishing trip. (I'm surprised the other, more famous fishing incident wasn't mentioned...)

"We're asking President Carter to think this through and to grant fish peace by leaving them in the water where they belong," PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a press release.
(You know, we could also grant fish peace and a good party if we let Kimora Lee Simmons, whose husband is a PETA member, bait the hooks with good ganja...kind of like the stuff she was smokin' when she got pulled over last summer...perhaps?)

A Carter Centre spokesman said the centre does not comment on Carter's private correspondence.
(Thank God for that...if that were true, we'd probably know how many times Ed McMahon has written to former President Carter telling him he may already be a winner!)

OK, WHAT is up PETA's ass???

What is the problem with fishing? Fishing has been happening since hunter/gatherer days, when Og the caveman went out with his caveman buddies, dug up worms, got away from the wives early in the morning, and caught saber-tooth carp. You know, I think it's hard enough to catch a fish that it's more sporting than hunting, really. Oh well, I'm just a girl...what do I know?
